HMS Scrap Categories & Specifications

HMS (Heavy Melting Scrap) is classified into two primary grades:

HMS 1: Clean wrought iron or steel scrap, no galvanized or blackened steel, minimum thickness ¼ inch (6.3 mm)

HMS 2: May include galvanized or blackened steel, minimum thickness ⅛ inch (3.2 mm)

Typical Blend Ratios:

Premium Blend: 80% HMS 1 and 20% HMS 2 – best for high-quality steel melting.

Standard Blend: 70% HMS 1 and 30% HMS 2 – suitable for most industrial applications.

Lower Grade Blend: 60% HMS 1 and 40% HMS 2 – more economical option for general use
